In a re-fixed match against Rush this evening Railway batted first and when Kenny Carroll fell for just 4 runs and with Kev O'Brien away on international duty and Glenn Querl with the Ireland womens team some might have felt a competitive total might have been beyond them. However, in what felt like a changing of the guard the younger players stood up and started to perform at the higher level.
With Kenny out and PK shortly after it was left to the south african sounding irishman Philippe Le Roux and the irish sounding south african Liam McCarthy to propel Railway forward. Philippe and Liam made run a ball half centuries and ensure Railway posted a challenging end of season total of 131 for 5 in their 20 overs.
In reply Liam continued where he left off and and he and PK reduced Rush to 9 for 3 in reply supported by a great spell from Fakhar Zaman with 4 overs 1 for 6 Rush struggled to make progress. However, the best was to come for Railway's young proteges as the final three wickets fell in the final three balls as Sean O'Brien took his first ever senior hat trick with three Rush batsmen castled three balls in a row as he finished with figures of 3 for 15.
The win means Railway have completed their matches and have a chance of progressing but will have to await other results
