Match report/lines on the event The inaugural IPPA Azadi Cup took place yesterday at the home of Railway Union Cricket Club. A friendly T10 game was organised on behalf of IPPA and the Pakistan embassy. Both sides displayed exciting cricketers with ex Irish internationals Kevin O’Brien and Kenny Carroll also partaking. Pakistan won the toss and batted first posting a total of 69 from their 10 overs with the main contributions from Fakhar Zaman, Ali Elahi and Shariq Khan. Liam McCarthy was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets in one over reducing the Pakistan side to 15-5 at one stage. In response Ireland took the game home in the final over with main contributions coming from youngsters Rob O’Brien and Mark Canniffe. Abdul Ghaffar and Saad Ullah were the pick of the bowlers from the Pakistan side with 2 wickets each. The event was a great success with many in attendance supporting. A fun day out with family and friends we hope that this becomes an annual event for years to come. Fantastic to see how sport can be used to integrate the Irish and Pakistani communities.
